How much is your time worth?

My father and I at the National Super Senior/Father and Son Tournament in Sarasota, FL
My Mom and Dad at dinner last night in Sarasota.

The question is how much is your time worth?

This past week I was able to spend the week with my parents in Sarasota.  My Dad and I competed in a National Father/Son tennis tournament for the thirteenth year in a row (the same year that I started my Market America business).  It has been something that I look forward to every year and a very special time together.  It is also something that I never would have been able to do during my years of climbing the corporate ladder. Whether we win or not is irrelevant.  The time together is what it is all about.  It brings back wonderful memories of us playing tennis together during the last 35 years.

This year is even more special.  I have spent about four or five days a month since September visiting my parents while my Mom fights lung cancer.  It has been a really tough road but she is a fighter and on her way to getting better.  The picture above is one of the first times that she has been out for dinner in the last four months.  My mom is the kind of person who always took care of everyone.  Now it is her turn for us to take care of her.

I treasure everyday with my parents.  Mom and Dad, if you read this, I love you very much!  If I still had my corporate job - there is no way that I could be spending as much time with my Mom and Dad during a time of great need.  I loved the corporate world but I hated the hours and the politics.  Because thirteen years ago, I decided to start my own UnFranchise Internet business out of my home, I now have choices to be where I want to be when I want to be there.  As long as I have access to the internet and a cell phone, I can work as little or as much as I want to.

  1. Thank you for sharing Jim. Faye & I are also working towards being able to spend more time with her mom, who has health challenges and is now living with us.

  3. Thank you Jim for taking the time to help your MA family while visiting your family in Florida. One of the things that always impresses me in this business, is that when JR talks about this being for the average person, it really is as you don't lose that average when you are making the big $$$$! PS I loved the Troll story.

  4. Thank you Jim for sharing. You bring life into people by sharing your heart felt experiences. You are the reason Maryville MO is no longer a spot on the map especially in Market America.
